Chattanooga Police Warn Residents About Phone Scam

The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) is warning the community about a new phone scam in which callers pretend to be officers from CPD or the Sheriff’s Office.

Scammers are contacting residents claiming that the person missed a court date and must pay a fine in Bitcoin to avoid going to jail. Authorities emphasize that this is 100% a scam.

“No law enforcement agency will ever call you to demand payment, in any currency, in exchange for avoiding arrest,” CPD stated.

Residents who receive these fraudulent calls are urged to hang up immediately and report the incident by calling 423-698-2525.
